Lydia was turned from an offcut left behind after a much larger vessel was removed from the lathe. Instead of becoming waste—or firewood—the remaining red oak was transformed into a distinct piece of its own. The exterior is charred and wire-brushed, while the interior is treated only with tung oil. Stitches secure the wood, and the rough rim preserves the visible path of the chainsaw that originally cut the log.
