Rowan
Rowan was turned from a piece of oak from a friend’s garden. The tree had fallen during winter and the blank was still full of moisture when it went onto the lathe. As it dried, the wood warped, twisted, cracked, and settled into its final form. Several knots mark where branches once grew and influence the movement of the whole object. The rim was left exactly as it came from the chainsaw, preserving the original cuts and traces of the tree’s previous life.
